On behalf of Evelyn Lauder and our entire organization, I would like to thank you for your thoughtful contribution to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation .

We are proud to report that in fiscal year 2006, BCRF raised nearly $27 million in new revenues, allowing us to authorize more than $24.3 million in new research grants – more than double what BCRF awarded just four years ago – to over 115 of the best and brightest scientists from top universities and academic medical centers across the United States and in Canada, Latin America, Israel, and throughout Europe.  This would not have happened without your dedicated support, and that of many others like you. 

As many of our grantees have told us, these times are especially difficult for scientists because of cutbacks in federal funding.  Private research support from BCRF is more important than ever, and the expertise of our distinguished Medical Advisory Board assures us that we are putting our research dollars into the right hands – those who are at the forefront of new advances that are saving lives and making early detection and more effective treatments available for all.  Speaking for all our grantees, Dr. Shelton Earp, Director of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina, recently said that:  “we never take this support for granted, but work diligently to use these funds in novel ways that will ultimately lead to the conquest of breast cancer.”

The Foundation perseveres to efficiently manage the heartfelt commitment of its donors. This year we received Charity Navigator’s highest rating, four stars, for the fifth consecutive year, thus outperforming 98.7% of more than 5,000 evaluated charities. BCRF received an “A” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy and was named one of America’s top eight charities by Money magazine. We are also proud to announce that in its June 2006 issue, Marie Claire cited BCRF on its list of the top ten best charities.

As we launch our 2007 funding cycle, join us in celebrating the historic breakthroughs BCRF-funded scientists have made and continue to make. It is because of donors like you that our researchers are on the brink of realizing a future free of breast cancer. Thank you for believing in this future, and for your generous support, which assures that we are able to pursue our mission of prevention and a cure.
